Root Canal Treatment

Root canals have gotten a bad reputation, but us dentists don’t know why!
These are the types of treatments that actually make you feel better!

WHAT IS A ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?

Root canals are tooth-saving procedures. The treatment design rids the inner tooth of infection. Followed by sealing of the tooth to prevent future infections. Thus preserving the tooth from a possible tooth removal.

DO I NEED A ROOT CANAL?

The number one sign you need a root canal is having severe tooth pain. Especially having tooth pain when eating/biting down on food. Or having pain and sensitivity with hot or cold foods and drinks. Other noticeable symptoms of needing treatment include:
  • Pain that wakes you up in the middle of the night
  • Toothache that worsens when pressure is applied or when eating
  • Darkening or discoloration of a tooth
  • Recurring swelling of the gums

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON’T GET A ROOT CANAL?

Skipping root canal therapy isn’t recommended at Vignesh Dental Hospital. Patients sometimes believe that their tooth infection healed with their pain suddenly gone. This, however, is a telltale sign that the infection has killed off the pain-sensing nerves. With an infection still present, this can weaken your tooth. Leading to fractures or cracks that will ultimately lead to needing an extraction. Even worse, with an untreated infection, it can spread to other areas of your body.

ARE ROOT CANALS PAINFUL?

Root canals are virtually painless. In fact, the treatment itself is pain relieving. If you’re currently suffering from tooth pain, call Vignesh Dental now. We offer emergency appointments for your convenience. Our experienced dentist will perform a thorough exam to see what’s causing your pain. Get relief today. We look forward to restoring your glowing smile.

WHAT CAN I DO TO PREVENT GETTING A ROOT CANAL?

Avoiding certain bad habits along with practicing good ones is the best way to avoid root canals. These include:
  • brushing twice a day
  • daily flossing
  • avoiding hard foods like candies
  • avoid chewing ice
  • wearing a nightguard if one is a jaw clencher
  • avoid sodas and other aerated drinks
  • be consistent with dental checkups and cleanings

WHAT TO EXCEPT?

For most patients, a root canal can be performed in a single visit. In most cases, once the tooth is repaired we recommend protecting it with a porcelain crown to prevent fracture.
